Tristina Bumgarner

Tristina is available for private vocal lessons.

Tristina Bumgarner can’t think of a time when she didn’t feel a connection to music. Being a singer was the first thing she ever said she wanted to be, and once she landed her first solo at the age of six, there was no turning back. From that point, she jumped at any opportunity to be on stage, joining the Salem School of Performing Arts and her school choir. After three years of formal vocal training, her focus then shifted to competing in vocal/talent competitions throughout her teens and early 20s, many of which she placed within the top three.

In her mid-20s, she decided to leave showtunes and ballads behind for rock and roll. First singing in cover bands, before fronting several original rock bands. She took a break to earn a degree in Communication Studies at Portland State University just prior to forming her current musical project, Grimiss in 2020. That puts 36 years of stage experience under her belt, and aside from working as an Instructional Assistant for the Salem-Keizer Public School District, singing is still the only thing she wants to do.

Tristina holds the belief that music can be transformative, a way to tap into yourself and grow. Foundational skills and vocal techniques are obviously important, but so are confidence building and self-expression. She likes to create an environment where learning and development can be fun, and challenges can be embraced and overcome. Bringing the right energy to songs and building performance prowess are also central to her goals for students because connecting to what you’re doing brings about a more honest and enjoyable experience.
